He is the developer of the Erodibility Index Method used to assess scour on major projects around the world, including the San Roque Dam in the Philippines, the Karahnjukar Hydroelectric Project in Iceland, and the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge in the United States. His method has also been incorporated into federal and state guidelines, including those of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Colorado Department of Transportation, and Federal Highway Administration. Dr. Annandale has worked on projects on five continents and speaks English, German, and Afrikaans. He is author or contributing author to six books and close to 100 papers. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT Nowhere is the belief that we are what we eat held more steadfastly than among the brethren of the Rastafari. There is good reason to shun additives, preservatives, all processed foods, all that is generally eaten which has no direct root in nature. For this reason the Rastafari always cook without added salt, a practice commonly known as 'Ital'. TO BE IRIE IS TO BE AT ONE WITH NATURE The state of being at one with nature, being at peace with oneself, with all the things around us is of the highest states. This is the natural high, and as it derives in music and chant, so it derives in good health and vitality, in the nature of the food we eat, the fruits and vegetables, the spices and the herbs. ITAL IS VITAL In Rasta cooking the natural flavour of each dish is embellished through the use of spices and herbs which compliment the natural essence of the ingredients. All care should be taken to preserve the natural purity of ingredients used in the preparation of 'Ital' food. This caring should extend from the preparation and serving, to eating. For this reason the devout brethren of the Rastafari will use only utensils made from natural materials, stone, earthenware. The matching of herbs or spice with vegetable is the result of a long and skilfully laid tradition originating from the African ancestry and cultural heritage of the Rastafari. The herbs and spices are also fruits of the earth and are as such essential ingredients to the diet of the vital man. The most widely used of the spices is pepper, fresh ripe peppers. The most piquant of the spices. The most widely used herb is marijuana, use of which is prohibited by law in the UK and a number of other countries. It is, however, the strongest of the herbs, and in the tradition of the Rastafari unlimited by dish. It sweetens and embellishes all, baked, boiled, fried or stewed. I really like the simple recipes in this book. I made the Jamaican dumplings with my kids and they really liked them. This is an excellent book for anyone who likes to make fresh organic foods.

This has a really good selection of recipes and all stuff you can find in a local grocery stores.

This book is full of Rasta "Ital" dishes, the heart and soul of Jamaican vegetarian food. I have owned a copy of this book for years, and wanted to share it with a friend, could not find it anywhere but amazon (reasonably priced). Rasta cook book is a treasure, worth it's weight in gold, the recipes will make you homesick for Jamaica as some of the ingredients can only be found fresh on sweet "Jah make Yah". A must for vegetarian cooks, Rastas, and lovers of Jamaica.

I like the simplicity of the recipes

But they are great, easy recipes :)) I read it almost daily. Full of vegan recipes. My carrot fritters came out tasting terrible though.. We'll see.

This cookbook is truly for those interested in the Rastafari way and Ital diet. It has great recipes that anyone can use, however. I bought this for my son, who lives in Florida, so he will be able to find many of the tropical and exotic ingredients used in these recipes. I live in Vermont and would have to make many substitutions. I am a professional cook and I really enjoyed reading through the book, even though I probably wouldn't make a lot of the recipes in it.

This is a good one for my library. I will have a great time reading & cook for family & friends.

This is one of a few cd's that I bought as part of a Valentine's Day gift for my husband. We both are currently doing our family trees and, even though we have just started going through the cd's I ordered, we can tell that all of them will be a great help in our genealogy searches.

If your German ancestry is not primarily from the Pennsylvania area, this is not a perfect reference --- the German ancestry I was looking for went into New York, but not New York City, and it doesn't appear there will be much there for me. Later I may find that I have German ancestry in PA and will be glad I have it.

This is a DVD collection of pdf copies of various books, pamphlets and journals whose emphasis is on German-American history and genealogy. Its strength is on documents related to the early (1700-1850) German settlement of eastern Pennsylvania and if your ancestral roots go to that time and place this collection could be a gold mine. There are a few documents that refer to New York, Maryland and Indiana but Pennsylvania is its concentration. Unfortunately my family ancestry starts after the Civil War and is concentrated in western PA and NY, so there was no-to-little direct information available to me here (4 stars).The DVD is well produced and the documents are are clear and easy to read with Adobe Reader. Most are in English with a few minor portions in German. There are several family genealogies included in the collection, which could be a great boom if a portion related to your ancestry. Certainly this is a good value at $5.95 even it provides only background information on German immigration to the U. S. The product came quickly in a sturdy DVD mailer via USPS.

Tell us a little bit about your book, who is it aimed at and how will it help them?
This book is a comprehensive textbook of pediatric echocardiography. It covers the latest advances in ultrasound imaging of the heart in children, and also deals with congenital heart disease in fetuses and adults. The textbook is aimed at those who practice and teach pediatric and congenital echocardiography. It provides a comprehensive, integrated approach to pediatric cardiac ultrasound and includes information about the anatomy, pathophysiology, and goals of the echocardiographic examination for each lesion before, during, and after treatment.

What inspired you to write the book?
We, the editors, saw a great need for an updated reference textbook for our trainees and for our colleagues and their trainees. It has been over a decade since the release of the last comprehensive textbook on this topic.

What do you hope readers will get out of it?
The chapters are written by experts throughout North American and Europe. Despite the wide geographic distribution of the authors, a consistent and thorough approach to pediatric echocardiography is provided. The readers will also have a DVD with hundreds of examples of key anatomic and functional issues mentioned in the text

What is different about your book from others in the field?
Its main attraction is that it is recently released and incorporates the latest technologies. It provides a perspective from authors drawn from most of the major pediatric cardiology centers on two continents. It is also the first comprehensive textbook to provide illustrative video clips, which greatly improve the readers’ ability to understand the information in the text and still figures.

What is your day job?
I run a non-invasive pediatric cardiology imaging laboratory at an academic medical center.

How did you get into this line of work?
I like taking care of children, and I enjoy the challenge of diagnosing and treating congenital heart disease. I have had great role models who were devoted to their patients but who also loved to teach.

What would you be if you were not a doctor?
I’d do something else that requires puzzle solving. Perhaps I’d be an engineer or an architect.

And finally, did you enjoy writing this book, and are you planning any others?
It was fun to work with my co-editors and all the authors. Everyone was willing to squeeze in this work despite being already incredibly busy. We’d like to update the textbook periodically in order to keep it relevant and on the cutting edge. Future editions should be more electronically based and accessible to readers over the internet.
